Boy, Morton Salt and the ASPCA must know what a safety nut I am, cuz I got and email from a nice lady asking me if I would like to promote their safety campaign on my blog. I was all over it like pug fur on a couch. Turns out, Morton Salt has a pet safe ice melting product called
Safe-T-Pet. In addition to being doubly safe by keeping us from slip sliding away, and making sure we don't lick any poison, or hurt our paws, they are launching a Winter Safety Campaign.
As part of the campaign, Morton Salt is donating $20,000 green papers to the ASPCA.
This campaign will last through January of 2012. By going to Morton Salts
Facebook page and liking them, they will donate $1 to the
ASPCA. Those dollars are in addition to the 20,000 they have already promised, up to $75,000! That's easy enough. I didn't even need to leave the safety of my couch to do that! Those dollars will go a long way in helping less fortunate animals than us, that's for sure. Here is a link to their

Not only all of that, but the nice lady who contacted me is giving me a pet safety kit to giveaway to one of you lucky readers! I was thinking of doing it next week sometime. Maybe a photo contest showing me how you are implementing the many safety tips offered at
their site. What do you think?
Here are a few examples they told me about...
- Using pet-friendly (salt free and
chloride free) ice melters such as Morton® Safe-T-Pet®.
- Keeping anti-freeze high on shelves
in sealed containers and quickly cleaning any spills/leakage.
- Limiting outdoor time for pets when
temperatures drop below freezing.
- Checking warm spots on cars, such as
hoods, where animals might seek shelter from the cold.
- Keeping pets on a leash, especially
dogs, which can become disoriented or lost when once familiar surroundings are
covered in ice and snow; and
- Making sure pets are wearing
identification tags and proper outerwear as needed
