Happy Birthday My Little Sluggy Bee

Sluggo at about 6 months old
Hi folks, It's Wil's Mom here today. She graciously let me sit in today so that I could post about her brother's birthday. Thanks Wil.

It was five years ago today that Sluggo came into the world. I knew of his birth as his Mom Chole was being fostered by our friend Samantha (Murphy's Mom). What I had no idea of, was that the little guy who wasn't breathing at first, would be changing our lives forever. To read all about his first weeks, click here. Murphy did a post a while back.

Sluggo on the right (I think)

You see, we had no intentions of adding a 3rd pug to the pack. We had had plenty of opportunities, but this time it was different. This lanky little, awkward, long necked giraffe of a pug cast a spell over us. Well, almost all of us. Brigitte was not too keen on the idea of having a little ball of energy around.

Why Mom?

They were soon fast friends though.

So it began, live with Sluggo, life with three pugs.

It wasn't easy at first. All of you people who say going from 2 to 3 is no big deal, you are liars. We were now out numbered!
Walks changed.
Mealtime changed, Wilma was now food aggressive.
Bully sticks and the like changed (see mealtime).
The trim on our newly remodeled kitchen changed.
Our new leather sectional changed. It became a four thousand dollar chew toy.
The lambie budget changed. This kid could destroy a stuffie in 1 minute flat!

For all those things, this little guy had charm. I had always heard that male pugs had a different temperament.
It was true. Wilma, with her aloof coolness and devilish charm was our intro to pugs.
Then came energetic, sweet. lovable Britte.

But this guy was a lover.

He loved Wilma, he loved lambies, but most of all, he loved his Mommy.
And I loved him right back.

Over the past almost 5 years that love has grown. Naturally, I can't imagine life without Sluggo.
He is the quirkiest misfit I've ever met. Allow me to discuss some of his issues.

Surface issues. Won't walk on certain surfaces. Doesn't like it when certain things are on top of other surfaces such as tables, chairs etc.

Doesn't like it if his lambies are too close to things, such as cabinets or furniture. He will cry at them until you retrieve them for him.

Doesn't like to be talked to if you are not fully visible to him. Behind a counter, coming upstairs from the cellar. He'll bark at you until you remedy this.

He is compelled to cancel out the girls pees. Even if he has come in and they do something more, he has to run out and either pee or poop directly on the area.

He has the most bizarre relationships with his lambies. Wilma has discussed some of his obsessions, such as his hierarchy. A few months back, a couple fights broke out around the lambies. We think now, it may have been Sluggo trying to rise up when Wilma was ill. We have reintroduced a few now, and things have been peaceful. Lately, Sluggo has a new compulsion around his lambies. When we settle down at night to TV or whatever, he jumps up with a fave. Right now, his loofah dog, or duckie. He likes to suckle them, and put the whole damn thing in his mouth. Now, at about 9PM every night, he pops up his head, looks around, jumps down and returns with a rope toy.
"Time to chew some rope"

I could go on and on, but I won't. I want to go spend some time with my little Sluggy Bee. We have a few surprises in store for him. We'll tell you about that later.

Oh, and one more thing. I tried to post this the other day, but the Blogpress app is f'd up again. So, you will get the Readers Digest version.

Way back when, Sluggo won one of Punchy's giveaways.
I finally got around to sending his neck measurements, so that he could have his very own bow tie!

He hated it.

He just stood there frozen for the longest time.

I think he started to like it after all the girls were swooning all over him though.

OK, one more Sluggo pic and I'm done.

Happy Birthday buddy!!!! I love you more than Wilma loves treats!

Woah! Two Years?!

398 posts

almost 4,000 comments
Whoda ever thunk, that day two years ago when I asked Mom if we could start blogging, that I would have accomplished so much.
There have been giveaways, contests and reviews. We have started a great club in the Sunflower girls, where we have camped, partied, gone on tour.
You have come on vacation to the Cape with us, met our friends in need of homes, been through hurricanes and blizzards.
There have been a lot of laughs, and a few tears along the way.

One thing I can tell you without a doubt.
The best part about writing this blog has been the amazing people and pugs we have met along the way. I mean it! You all have enriched our lives on so many levels. Thanks for coming by and reading, and commenting. Thanks to those of you who write your own blogs. I don't want to say I'd be nothing without you, because I'm me, and I'm awesome no matter what. However, I certainly wouldn't be as inspired to share my greatness, without all of you, my friends!

I'm Brigitte, I'm 11, and I don't care!!!!! Hehehehehe!!!

Sweater Day ~ We Do It the Stubby Way

As many of you know, today is Sweater Day.
We all know because our friend Winston Wilbur told us about it.

He made it even more important by dedicating the day to our beloved friend Stubby

Well, wouldn't you know it, after living on Arctic Tundra for the past what seems like forever, it is warm here today.
Like, in the 50's warm.

But, that is OK. We still put on our sweaters.
We put 'em on, turned OFF the heat, threw open some windows and went for a walk.

And later, when it gets freezing again...
We will turn the heat back on 3 degrees lower and keep on our sweaters.

Mom found this video from the Canadian WWF that is pretty funny.
She is trying to share it here. We are keeping our paws crossed that it works.

Click below and watch the video. Sweater Man is a riot!

In other news, I had a long talk with Mom this morning about her spending so many of the awake hours away from home at that WORK place. She has been hindering my ability to keep in touch with all my blog friends. I told her that just because she doesn't have anything exciting going on in her life, that I have a life. I need to keep up on every one's happenings and share my news as well. Unfortunately I need her thumbs, and her functioning brain in order to do that.
She promised that things will be returning to something similar to a normal routine around here, and she will be able to give me more time to post and keep up with you all. I have been reading many of your posts, but haven't been commenting so much. Mom says that'll change.
It better!

Happy Green Stubby Sweater Day everybody!

Holy Crap! It's My Blogoversary

I can hardly believe I have been at this blogging thing for a whole year. It feels like just a minute ago I was performing mind control exercises on my Mom to get her to start this thing. At the same time, I feel like I have known all of the friends I have made in the process, forever.
So I went checking around to see how people celebrate this blogoversary thing.
I could tally up a bunch of statistics, but that would take time Mom doesn't have.
I could share my favorite posts with you, but I just didn't feel like it.
I could blow it off, but why would I blow off an opportunity to celebrate me?
I was getting dizzy looking at all the ways to commemorate the day, and then it dawned on me...

Maybe if I got a calender, this day wouldn't sneak up on me next year, and I would be more prepared. (fat chance!)
But I am getting a calender, plus I am going to give one away.
It isn't just any calender...
It is my meetup calender.
It stars me, Brigitte, Sluggo and my man Murphy and his bro Duke.

That's them on the cover.

I am sure most of your parents have a calender already, but what's another pug calender among friends?
Plus, I will even pawtograph it!

So leave a comment and consider yourself entered.
I think I will draw a winner on Friday.
If you simply can't wait to win one you can go here.
any profit from the sale of the calender goes to pug rescue

A Visit From Across the Pond

Dad's family from Ireland came for a visit to Grammy and Grampys this weekend. I automatically liked them because their arrival prompted a cook out. And as everyone knows, Grilma loves a cookout. They had two boys with them, and they loved us. So much in fact, that there was a request for an encore performance Saturday morning.

I have to hand it to that Sluggo, he really has the mojo when it comes to children. Every last one of them loves him. I don't mind him getting all that attention from the kids, it allows me to kick back and relax. Then, at just the right moment, I can make one of my grand entrances by bursting onto the scene. Like I did when they were having a big family photo session. You know the kind, the whole family begrudgingly lines up on the couch. It's a miracle if everyone smiles at once. Everyone is glad when it's finished. Well, just when they thought they were done, BANG!! I jumped up onto Gramma Mary's lap and started voguing. All my cuteness caused more flashes to go off. There was laughter, petting and lots more love. Just the way I like to steal the show.

Here's Brigitte collecting some love at our return trip Saturday morning

They're off now, exploring more of the New England coast. We hope they have a great trip. We really enjoyed spending time with them, and especially love how they pronounce pug. Kinda like poog.

Brigitte's Day

Hi Everybody! Brigitte here. Wilma is letting me write a post today to tell you all how great it is to turn 10. I can't wait to do it again!

First of all, I want to thank you all for the special Birthday wishes and posts. Mom was reading them to me from her iPad on vacation, and it made me feel extra special to hear from all our wonderful bloggy friends!

I had the best birthday!
Mom took me on a special private shopping trip all by myself!

We strolled down Commercial Street. Mom had me in my Britte bag and everybody was stopping us and giving me love. It was great.

We passed by this table where they were selling raffle tickets to benefit animals on the lower Cape. I definitely wanted to contribute, so we got a whole booklet. The grand prize is $1000.00. I wouldn't mind putting that in my puggy bank either.

Then we went to this store

There were all kinds of great smells and fun toys. They had water and cookies for me, and Mommy got me a new collar.

We had cake with whippy for me, plus P-town had fireworks and a parade to celebrate my birthday!!! Can you imagine?!

We could watch the fireworks  from out on our deck. I was right out there, front and center. Wilma and Sluggo were hiding inside.

Then a parade came right by the house!

They had a giant cake shooting confetti with 100 candles.
They must have wanted me to have 10 times the fun, and it worked!!

*Note from Wilma*
They were really celebrating the 100th anniversary of this...

It is Pilgrims Monument, and it was built 100 years ago to commemorate the first landing place of the pilgrim's on their journey from England.

This is a depiction of the original dedication ceremony.
Back to Brigitte. Please don't tell her that the parade and fireworks weren't exactly for her birthday. As far as we all were concerned, they were.

As we were strolling down the street, I saw these...

See the little magic bubbles? Tweedles was there. Just like she said she would be. I couldn't believe my eyes.

I had a crazy great time!!! The only thing that could have made it better was if all my friends were there. Maybe for my next 10th birthday!

Cele~Britte

My beautiful sister Brigitte will turn ten years old on Sunday August 1st. We will be celebrating on the Cape.  There will be documentation of these events, but I didn't want to leave without telling Brigitte how much we all love her.
Sure, I gave her a daily beat down for the first year or two she came to live with us, but I was only testing her.
So Britte, Brigitte, B, Breedletons McGee, Brigillent B, Brigitte P, Mrs Bambridge, B Complex ,
Whatever we call you, you are the best sister any diva pug could ask for. Thanks for always letting me shine in the spotlight, for always taking on each day with a smile, for remaining true to yourself, for always being our sweet Brigitte.

Long may you run.

For those of you who think I've gone soft, posting two cloyingly sweet posts in one week ,fear not. I fully intend to refresh my superior royal self this week on vacation. Remember, I am about to wow Privincetown.

Wilma's Wednesday Words of Wisdom ~ My 100 th Post!!!

" Expect the Unexpected"

So yeah, 100 posts. Can you believe it? I was really struggling with how to celebrate my 100th post . I thought of eating 100 liver treats, but I have worked very hard on my figure and didn't want to blow it. I thought of pooping in the shape of 100. I really liked that idea, but Mom said it would be too offensive. I thought of making a list of 100 somethings, but I couldn't figure out what somethings they would be.
It was getting late, I was stressing out and I didn't want to deprive my peeps of my wisdom on this fine Wednesday.

Then I started to reflect back on what my expectations were when I asked Mom if we could start blogging. I wasn't really sure what would happen.

I mean, I knew I was smart.
I knew I was beautiful.
I knew I was funny.
I knew I had a lot to say.
I figured, I should share those qualities with the world.
I wasn't sure if the world would listen, but quite frankly, I didn't care. Their loss.

Here's what I didn't expect.
I didn't expect to meet so many truly special pugs, dogs and their people.
I didn't realize there were so many, like myself, smart and attractive and witty pugs out there.
I didn't expect to feel like I was part of a community of supportive, compassionate caring and really funny people and their pugs.
I didn't expect that I would come to care so much for them all.

So, this wisdom is new to me. I have learned to expect the unexpected.
You never know what you are going to get  from me, and that has always been the case, by design.
But, sometimes it's very nice to be surprised.
It's nice to open yourself up to possibilities, take a chance, share a part of yourself.
The rewards come back to you tenfold.

So, I, along with Brigitte and Sluggo would like to dedicate this 100th post, this Wednesdays words of wisdom to all of you.
My bloggy friends and family.
You guys rock!

Wilma's Wednesday Words of Wisdom: Cinqo Di Mayo Edition

"La cucaracha la cucaracha na na na na na na na na..."
Sing loud!!! Whether or not you know the words!

Woo hoo! It's fiesta time! Brigitte is feeling better and I am ready to party! Tres dogulos wishing you all a  Happy Cinqo Di Mayo . No big lesson here this week, other than to celebrate every chance you get. That's why we're on our way to Emmett's house for Partypalooza 2010. We will be bringing chimichungas, nachos and margaritas  (virgin ones for Brigitte, no alcohol with antibiotics) So get ready everybody, I am going to do the mexican hat dance right through the door by nightfall!. Lets hope Sluggo loosens up. As you can see, he doesn't like dressing up. He wouldn't even put on his sombrero.
We hope you all enjoy the day, no matter what you are doing!

Ole'!!

Happy Valentines Day

Just want to send big love out to all my peeps and pugs out there. I hope you are all celebrating with the ones you love today. Getting and giving lots of kisses. Just remember pugs; stay away from the chocolate. It smells heavenly but it is poison to us. Besides, I don't know about you all, but I prefer my Valentines treats meat flavored!
