Happy Birthday My Little Sluggy Bee

Sluggo at about 6 months old
Hi folks, It's Wil's Mom here today. She graciously let me sit in today so that I could post about her brother's birthday. Thanks Wil.

It was five years ago today that Sluggo came into the world. I knew of his birth as his Mom Chole was being fostered by our friend Samantha (Murphy's Mom). What I had no idea of, was that the little guy who wasn't breathing at first, would be changing our lives forever. To read all about his first weeks, click here. Murphy did a post a while back.

Sluggo on the right (I think)

You see, we had no intentions of adding a 3rd pug to the pack. We had had plenty of opportunities, but this time it was different. This lanky little, awkward, long necked giraffe of a pug cast a spell over us. Well, almost all of us. Brigitte was not too keen on the idea of having a little ball of energy around.

Why Mom?

They were soon fast friends though.

So it began, live with Sluggo, life with three pugs.

It wasn't easy at first. All of you people who say going from 2 to 3 is no big deal, you are liars. We were now out numbered!
Walks changed.
Mealtime changed, Wilma was now food aggressive.
Bully sticks and the like changed (see mealtime).
The trim on our newly remodeled kitchen changed.
Our new leather sectional changed. It became a four thousand dollar chew toy.
The lambie budget changed. This kid could destroy a stuffie in 1 minute flat!

For all those things, this little guy had charm. I had always heard that male pugs had a different temperament.
It was true. Wilma, with her aloof coolness and devilish charm was our intro to pugs.
Then came energetic, sweet. lovable Britte.

But this guy was a lover.

He loved Wilma, he loved lambies, but most of all, he loved his Mommy.
And I loved him right back.

Over the past almost 5 years that love has grown. Naturally, I can't imagine life without Sluggo.
He is the quirkiest misfit I've ever met. Allow me to discuss some of his issues.

Surface issues. Won't walk on certain surfaces. Doesn't like it when certain things are on top of other surfaces such as tables, chairs etc.

Doesn't like it if his lambies are too close to things, such as cabinets or furniture. He will cry at them until you retrieve them for him.

Doesn't like to be talked to if you are not fully visible to him. Behind a counter, coming upstairs from the cellar. He'll bark at you until you remedy this.

He is compelled to cancel out the girls pees. Even if he has come in and they do something more, he has to run out and either pee or poop directly on the area.

He has the most bizarre relationships with his lambies. Wilma has discussed some of his obsessions, such as his hierarchy. A few months back, a couple fights broke out around the lambies. We think now, it may have been Sluggo trying to rise up when Wilma was ill. We have reintroduced a few now, and things have been peaceful. Lately, Sluggo has a new compulsion around his lambies. When we settle down at night to TV or whatever, he jumps up with a fave. Right now, his loofah dog, or duckie. He likes to suckle them, and put the whole damn thing in his mouth. Now, at about 9PM every night, he pops up his head, looks around, jumps down and returns with a rope toy.
"Time to chew some rope"

I could go on and on, but I won't. I want to go spend some time with my little Sluggy Bee. We have a few surprises in store for him. We'll tell you about that later.

Oh, and one more thing. I tried to post this the other day, but the Blogpress app is f'd up again. So, you will get the Readers Digest version.

Way back when, Sluggo won one of Punchy's giveaways.
I finally got around to sending his neck measurements, so that he could have his very own bow tie!

He hated it.

He just stood there frozen for the longest time.

I think he started to like it after all the girls were swooning all over him though.

OK, one more Sluggo pic and I'm done.

Happy Birthday buddy!!!! I love you more than Wilma loves treats!

...and the Winner Is! and other random business

Congratz Shiloh and Shasta! You are the winners of our Pawmetto treats giveaway.
Just have your Mom email your address to my Mom and she will pass it along to the folks at Pawmetto. I hope you love the treats as much as we did, and thanks for playing.

We chose the winner via Random.org, and lucky number 2 came up!

I plan on doing the Saf-T-Pet giveaway this week to help kick off the Pet Safety Awareness month. I will give that it's own post though. I will let you know that it is going to be a photo contest. So have your people start documenting any safe practices in anticipation for winning your own safety kit.

With that business out of the way, I have a couple more things on my agenda today. First, I would like to officially wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope you find tons of treats, laps, fun and good health in 2012. I can't wait to spend another year sharing antics with all my good friends out there in blogville.

If you can imagine, tomorrow will be my second blogoversary! I plan on doing a special post, so be sure to check back.

Last year, I did a Best and Worst of 2010 awards post. I want to do another one this year. Kind of along the lines of the Grammys, or even like in the Enquirers best and worst dressed fashion.
I would love to have your input, so if you would like to peruse last years post for some ideas, and submit your own nominations, that would be awesome! Perhaps a panel of judges will be enlisted for this years event! I have plenty of trophy choices, so don't limit yourselves to last years categories. Oh, this is gonna be fun!

Before I sign off, there is some serious Sunflower Power of the Paw needed for our friend Pip.

Please stop by and offer him some love to help get him through this health scare.

There is also some Sunflower business to address, so keep your calenders open for a meeting girls.

That's all for now friends, must get back to bossing around the parents on Dad's last day of break!

So Much to Tell, So Little Time ~ so let's do a giveaway!

Hi! Whew! I don't know about you guys, but the humans around here have been running around like a bunch of fools all month. Seems to be an annual event. Either way, there are definitely some things I don't want let slide. One of those things being, telling you about the TASTY treats the lady over at Pawmetto sent for us to review. The bag came in the mail just a couple short weeks ago, and we made quick work of taste testing. So quick in fact, that we didn't stop long enough to do any photo documentation. Don't worry though, Mom got plenty of shots of me devouring the last of the crumbs tonight.

We received the Chicken Liver Treat variety. They come in beef and lamb as well. I can tell you without hesitation, that these liver treats were de-licious! Those of you who know me may be thinking, well you pugs will eat anything. That is pretty much true, however, even our non standard pug Sluggo liked them. He's like Mikey. You know.... let's get Mikey

Not only did they send us a bag of these lovely treats, but they also offered to provide a bag to our readers!
How cool is that?!

Here I am, finishing off the bag, while other pugs look on with envy... hehehehehehe

So here's the deal. If you would like to win a bag of Pawmetto treats of your very own, just leave a comment on this post. We'll go until Sunday at midnight. Then Monday I'll have Mom run your entries through randomizer.

I'm going to do another give away related to last weeks safety post from Morton Salt and the ASPCA, but I'll save the deets for another post.

I do also want to let you all know, that I went for my eye follow up the other day, and the ulcer is healed. They are still putting the antibiotic ointment in the eye, but I also get one of my PK meds back. Plus, I get another trip down to Norwalk with Mom on the heated seat!.

I thought about going in the garden, because, well you know, I can. But I was so pleased with the good report, I thought better of it.

OK people, that's all for now. Don't want to overwhelm you with all the details of my fabulous life, but I will be back soon to share more!

Wilma's Wednesday Words of Wisdom

" Sunflower Girls Know How to Party"

I know, I know. How is this wisdom? Everybody knows we can party!
Well, I am using the words of wisdom forum to talk about our upcoming Sunflower Club new blooms ice cream social.

We will be starting the ice cream social  Friday night, and socializing through the weekend. Brigitte, Mom and myself will be making preparations all week.
All you sistas, old and new, are encouraged to send along pictures of your self to k dot hancich at snet dot net.
We will be compiling group shots as usual, but incorporating you all in various states of ice cream frenzies, or riding the Ferris wheel, can only add to the fun! Be creative!

My secretary Mom has to work on Saturday, so we won't be able to comment (unless she gets a minute to get on her iPhone), but you all should come by and party at any time you can over the weekend.

We are very excited to welcome all of our new Sunflower Sisters, and we are hoping to be able to announce a brand new blog from one of our new girls!

I also want to remind you about Sluggo's Stubby Memorial Earth Day Challenge.

He will be announcing a winner on Friday. You have until Thursday night at midnight to leave a comment on his post to be entered. Be sure to mention how you celebrated Earth Day.

Sluggo's Earth Day Challenge ~ Love Your Mother ~ Updated to Honor Stubby

Hi people's, Sluggo here. I've asked Mom to update my Earth Day Post. She did not include all of the details I had asked her too originally.
She appologised, something about working two back to back 10 hour shifts. Whatever.

The most important thing I want you to know, is that my challenge is dedicated to the memory of our friend Stubby.

You see Stubby was the hugest pugvocate for Mother Earth.
He dedicated his life to loving the Earth, and teaching us all how we could tread a little lighter.
This is the first Earth Day since he crossed the rainbow bridge, and all of blogville is diminished by his absence.

So this challenge is really for you Stubby, we miss you!

Hi everybody! Sluggo here. Happy Earth Day! Wilma let me borrow her blog today so I could tell you about my challenge. It really isn't all that challenging actually. Mostly, I am asking everyone to share with me anything you are going to do, in addition to what you already do, to help save our planet. In return, I am preparing a special package for one lucky entrant. I will choose a winner in one week on Arbor Day.

To make it easy, I have done some research to help inspire you.

Planet. green.com has put together some links to articles about things like dog friendly Earth Day events and natural flea and tick prevention.

E-cycling central gives links in every state for places to recycle old electronics.

Of course Petfinder is a great place to find recycled pets!

Here's a great idea from Erie County New York SPCA. Discs for Dogs will sell your donated cd's for a dollar in their store, and donate 100% of the money to help dogs.

So you see, there is no limit to the creative ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. Well, maybe there are some limits...

And by that I mean, no Brigitte, recycling poop doesn't count. At least not your way. Check Here for instructions to make your own poop composter!

So be creative, or ask Google. Just do something, and let me know what it is. In the end... Everybody wins!

Love,
Sluggy Bee

We Have a Winner ~ and then some

OK, before we announce the winner of my good to be bad CSN Birthday Giveaway, I want to thank everyone for playing. There are a lot of you out there who are very good at being bad. And I like that.

Also, before we proceed, thanks to everyone for all your Birthday greetings. Today is the actual day on which I was born 10 years ago. We had some adventures that I will tell you about soon.

I must however, share with you one of my gifts from Mom and Dad, and a pretty funny story that goes along with it.

So, it has been established that I am a fan of the best bad show on TV, Bad Girls Club.
To pay homage to my pride at being a bad girl, the parents decided to get me some merchandise from the club.
So Mom goes online and checks out the store.
She finds the perfect item for me and orders it.

Here I am modeling it.

Can you see it?

here, pan in a little closer

Yeah, that's right, I'm bad as bad can be in my new Bad Girls Club dog tag necklace!!!
woot, woot!!!

Now for the story...
Not 15 minutes after Mom ordered the necklace, she gets a call from her credit card loss protection department.
They want to inform her of a purchase made on her card that was not in line with her usual credit card purchases.
They give her the info on the necklace!
She had to cop to the credit card police that she indeed had made a purchase from The Bad Girls Club!!!

When she asked the guy if it made it any better that the purchase was for her dog, he didn't laugh.
What? she said. You're not familiar with the show?
"Oh no, I've seen the previews." Then silence.
Bwahahahaha...I nearly peed in the house when I heard that one.
I don't care, I love my necklace, and wear it with pride.

OK, so let's get down to business.
For the contest, I reviewed your entries.
Assigned each bad a** a number and entered it into the randomizer.

The winning entry belongs to Tallulah from The Southern Fried Pugs!!!

I won't lie to you. I was thrilled when Tallulah"s number came up on the screen.
She deserves to win this prize. Her badness is so good.
Do you know what she came up with?
I'll show  you.

"Tallulah multi-poops just to get treats. A smart little stinker, she learned that the more you potty outside, the more Cheerios you get. So she squeezes a little out, gets a treat, squeezes a little more out, gets a treat, etc. And if there is no treat forthcoming, she huffs and refuses a head scratch instead"

Is that not genius I ask you?
So, congratulations Tallulah. Please let us know what you buy with your CSN gift code. I do suggest a little something for your sisters, they are pretty good at being bad as well.
Big time props to the Southern Fried Pugs!
See, it is good to be bad!

Tallulah, please have your Mom send mine your e-mail address so she can forward the prize code.

Now, with the Grand prize announcement out of the way, I wish to announce that due to the sheer badness of some of your entries, I decided to award some consolation prizes to some of my favorite bad dogs.

Mr Pip
"I am bad to the bone. My latest bad deed - my parents recently bought a new fridge since we are putting our place on the market. I was banned from the kitchen because I had, once or twice or ten times, peed on the old fridge. Well, guess what! I managed to break through the doggie gate and mark the new fridge!!! Am I bad or what!"

Spongy and Licky

"We are Bad!! Having the Door Wide Open so we can Pee Outside, Well when we are mad at our Mamma for not giving us what we want we Love Pooping and Peeing right next to door but inside the HOUSE!!! Because We can!!! And never know who did what! We are Bad. Happy Birthday Month!!!"

Tweedles

"Wilma you are bad,,, but I am really bad too,,, If I feel like I am being ignored... well..... i start to tugging on the drapes. I look over my shoulder to see if anyone is noticing me,, and if moms ignore me,, well,,, one final YANK and down come the curtains."

Mimi Roo
"Mimi: Queen of rock eating, running away with things I shouldn't have including aforementioned rocks, and "sorting" the dirty laundry and leaving unclean things in the hu-moms walking path. Oh...and this is a good one. Using the entire dark brown carpet as my personal yard even to the point of after doing my tinkle kicking and flicking my feet as if the carpet is going to cover my mess and when the mama's find it looking all innocent or giving them the evil grin laugh. Mwahahahahaha"

So Mr Pip, Spongy and Licky, and Mimi Roo, please send my Mom your address so we can get your special gifts out into the mail.

Happy Birthday to me!

Now, where the heck did Brigitte and Sluggo go?
I swear they are up to something.

Deets on my CSN Giveaway

OK, first of all, many of you may know that I am a fan of the Bad Girls Club.

Why? Because I love to embrace my bad girl side. This includes watching lowbrow cable network reality shows chronicling the antics of drinking women living together in a mansion and fighting.
Not only that, but when I am bad, it is really only in the best way. You see bad isn't "bad". Bad is good.
C'mon, think of those times when your people come home to find the toilet paper strewn about the house or some other such evidence of antics. They clean up, acting all irritated, yet later on you hear them laughing about it. Or like, how about when we steal panties and they act all grossed out, yet they blog about it.

Bad is the new good.

Imagine my glee when I tuned in this week to meet replacement bad girl Wilmarie.

She has established herself as a bad girl straight out of the gate.
But the real reason I am so excited is that she goes by the name WILMA!

This development in the show inspired me to come up with the perfect way to run my CSN Birthday Giveaway.

Next Friday, March 25th I will draw a winner for a 45.00 gift code to CSN stores.
All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment telling me how good you are at being bad. A little something you do that makes you you. This contest is open to all bad girls and bad boys.
So c'mon everybody, what "bad" thing do you do that somehow results in feigned anger from the humans?
How bad could being bad be?

Here I am performing my latest badness. I like to stand by the back door and act like I need to go out to do business. Then, when they let me out, I step out onto the top stair, turn around and refuse to come in until I am offered incentive.
I'm so bad.

We Have a Winner

Hi friends. I know I said I would pick a winner for my calender on Friday, but when I heard about Stubby, I was just too blue.
But, here we are over a week into the new year and someone
out there is going days without their new calender.

Because I just wasn't in the mood to get fancy with choosing a winner, I left it up to Random.org.

Before I get to the results, I would like to show you the months featuring me and my peeps...

First of all, we have my boys Murphy and Duke in the month of March

Aren't they handsome? Imagine, one of you will get to stare at those manly mugs for a whole month.
Their Mom is the one who put all the work into creating the calender.

Next up, April's beauty Brigitte

Since I am up top, first (naturally) representing the month of October, the last one to show you is Sailor Sluggo for August...

So, with no further pomp and circumstance, I announce the winner of the 2011 Hartford Pug Meet up Calender starring moi is

Benny and Lily from Doggy Days!!!
Looks like there's going to be some curly tail in the house this year.
Congratulations guys. Have your Mom contact my Mom and we will get this right out to you.
