Bee Warned

Good day friends. I would like to share with you, some thing I saw last week at White Memorial while I was busy overdoing it.

In addition to the beautiful grounds and acre and acres of trails, White Memorial has lots of learning opportunities.
Here is a shot of the conservation center.

Around back, we went up these stairs through the native plants garden.

where we came upon a bunch of signs with things to look for around the park.
Including this!

I didn't see any of these bees on our visit, but look who was buzzing around when I got home.

Don't worry girls, nothing can take a way the beauty and power of the tall strong Sunflower!

Is it possible we could live in harmony?

*******************************

It was a late night last night. We all had so much fun.We sisters all slept in this morning, and guess who was home when we woke up...

I guess after the initial excitement of seeing Grammy, Grampy, Auntie and Uncle he started moping around

Plus he forgot to pack his lambie.Mom had to go pick him up in the middle of  the night last night (she said it was because he was whining and waking everybody up, I say she couldn't sleep with out her Sluggy Bee).

Then Brigitee asked for my help...

She said she remembers something about sneaking in, having a glass of wine and sending an email to her former family telling them how much better we are than them.
Does anyone know how to unsend e-mail?

Oy Vay, take your eyes off these kids for one minute and all heck breaks loose.

Nothing But the Best

Oh hi, you've caught me preparing for the big Sunflower Club camp out this weekend.
While you're here, allow me to show you around.

Here at Camp Sunflower

We have outdoor showers for your bathing needs.

Your safety  is of utmost importance to us. All crosswalks are clearly marked.

In the event of foul weather, we have our cabin, with wood burning stove. (doubtful we'll need it this weekend)

Of course Nurse Brigitte will be on duty for any of your medical needs.

We have lots of activities to keep you busy, such as our game room.

Nature talks.

Our tranquility garden for quiet reflection.

and nearby swimming.

For those of you concerned about your figure (and who among us loaves of bread isn't)  nutritious meals will be provided from our organic container garden,

tended to by Farmer Dad seen here with his ginormous garlic harvest.

Camp Sunflower had a lovely vegetable garden, before this guy came to town

But, fear not, ole Pitchfork Paul up the street took care of him. (I don't ask questions, just happy to be rid of him)

These amenities, along with all the awesome things You all are bringing will make this
one rockin' Sunflower Club Campout!!!

Check in officially begins at 3:00 PM EST tomorrow July23rd.
Open all weekend.

Can't wait to get the party started!!

Nature Surrounds Us

Mom and Dad took us on a hike on one of our favorite Summer trails. It is nice and wide, so we don't rub up on the poison ivy and it's almost entirely shaded. The temperature there has to be at least 10 degrees cooler than in the sun.

Apparantly horses like a nice cool  walk in the Summer too, because we met up with two of them on our walk.
This was Sluggo's second encounter with horses. I think he likes them. The first time he saw one he just stared at it slack jawwed, kinda like this.

I don't think he was expecting, what probably looked like a piece of furniture to him, to have a face.
This time he was a little more curious.

And the horse seemed to be interested in him as well.(Pardon the brown eye folks) But no one was as excited as Brigitte was to see a horse. She had to go right up and give him a kiss.

Mom didn't capture the actual kiss on film. That is unfortunate, because as you may know, Brigitte is not one to part with the kisses.

Since Dad is back at work after taking care of Mom last week, and he'll be too busy to post like he wanted to, let me be the one to share the news.
There has been something new growing in the garden.
It sprouted up right in the middle of the onions.
Dad did not plant it, but he certainly has seen evidence of it's germination, if you will.

It's a baby bunny warren. Mrs Rabbit has been nourishing herself on all the bean sprouts and lettuce to get ready for this.
I guess she liked it so much, she decided to move in.
Unfortunately, this is not a picture of our baby bunnies. But it is pretty close to what things are looking like over in North Haven.
Dad didn't want to disturb things so it was hard to get a good picture. But, I bet there will be some good opportunities for  pictures when the little things come out for something other than milk.
Dad says they are screwing him, whatever that means, but what can he do other than plant enough for us and them.
For someone without children, he sure has found himself with a lot of little mouths to feed.

Speaking of which, would you like to see what's been going on at the bird feeder as of late?

Meet  Mr Texas Titmouse

This little guy is my favorite. He is fearless. He likes to hang out in the back yard with me.
My little wren. I call him Stimpy.

All right, one more thing before I go.
Ladies...you know who you are...

I'd like to do another Special Sunflower Girl Post.
I am looking for suggestions of who to feature.
So please let me know who you are feeling for this round.  You may offer up just a name and/or you can also submit your reason for nominating them.
But remember girls, this time I want to see posts about the special someone on your blogs too.
So, shoot me some suggestions, and I will soon let you know how we will proceed.

Love and Sunflower Power to you all!!!

It's Not the Breet, It's the Humidity

It has been oppressively hot in my little corner of the world. And judging from many of the posts I've been reading, the same is true for many of you. Let's just say one of the Sunflower Sisters I live with in not really interested in being blocked from her daily jaunts by something as trivial as the weather. Must have something to do with the fact that she gets carried around in her bag by one of the humans, and doesn't have to trudge along, stifled by air that has so thick with humidity, Michael Phelps could do laps in it. We like to refer to Brigitte as the shop steward, because she always makes sure we get whats coming to us. Especially as it relates to our walks and our social agenda. This deep personal commitment of hers can be both a blessing and a curse. See, she doesn't let the parents get complacent[read:lazy] when it comes to taking us places. However, in weather like this, she could stand to reel it in a bit. Case in point, watch this video of her brow-breeting Dad into taking us for a walk or a ride. Take note of me lounging behind Dad. I can clearly determine that on this day her fight is a mute one

I hope you all are laying low and keeping cool and comfortable.Dog days of Summer? I beg to differ

Wilmas Wednesday Words of Wisdom ~ Other Peoples Wisdom Edition

"The only way to have a friend is to be one"
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hi everybody. Today's message has to do with friends, and how  important it is to listen to them. They often have ideas and wisdom that will enlighten you.  This may sound strange coming from such a egocentric pug as myself.  But you see, even though I love myself above all others, that doesn't mean I don't value the attributes of my friends.
Take my Sunflower Sistas Izzy and Josie..

A couple of weeks ago, when we were just geting started with the Sunflower Club, they came up with a great idea. They suggested that periodically all of us could honor one of our Sisters by devoting a special blog to them. What a great idea, I signed off on it right away. I'd like to kick off  this tradition today. Now, this is totally a project in development, so suggestions and tweaks are welcome and encouraged.

The original idea was to do a drawing to choose the featured friend. I dig that idea, but this time I am going to make an executive decision and declare the first Sunflower Spotlight shine on Izzy and Josie over at Those Elgin Pugs.

I think they deserve a little attention for being pretty good sisters to poor Anakin during his convalescence. I hope that's OK with you Izzy, to share the spotlight with Josie. I just couldn't choose one of you.

We were thinking about making a specific day to post the tribute, ex: Famous Friday or Sunflower Sister Sunday. This first time, I'd like to devote all of next week to post whatever day  you get a chance. Please let me know how you all feel about keeping it to one day vs. over the course of a week.

Another thing I'll throw out there are nominations in addition to or instead of the drawing to choose the special sunflower sister. In other words, if you think one of our sisters could use a little boost, nominate her, and we can show her some love and support.

This is in no way a mandatory assignment, but please participate if you are so inspired.
