Blog the Change ~ Pets for Vets

Blog the Change

Woah, it's that time again to Blog the Change! Almost missed it. It's a good thing Mom decided to pay a little attention to the important things in life, like me and my blog!

I must admit though, that there are some things that are even bigger and more important than me. That's where Blog the Change comes in. They provide this outlet to spread the word about great causes, and the people and animals behind them.

This time around, I chose to share the work of an organization called Pets for Vets

Pets for Vets was founded by animal trainer Clarissa Black. She works to save shelter animals and train them to be companion animals to veterans returning from service who are dealing with a variety of challenges including PTSD, traumatic brain injuries and physical disabilities. The effect of the relationships between the rescued and trained dogs and their new people, helps to save both parties.

You can learn all about Clarissa and the work she does by following the link above. I think she is a perfect example of someone being the change. I really admire what she is doing.

You could also like them on Facebook, if you are into that.

While you are at it, why not vote for Be the Change for Animals to win a Pettie on Dogtimes site they will donate their winnings to best Friends Animal Society. So it's all good.

Furthermore, if you check out any or all of these great folks, give yourself a cookie. You deserve it!

Have a great weekend!
Love,
Wilma

Wilma's Wednesday Words of Wisdom

"Sometimes you just need a little me time"

This goes mostly for those of you in multi-pet homes. But even you only dogs out there can benefit from this wisdom. Don't be afraid to be alone. Sometimes you just need a little time to reflect...

Dream...

Contemplate...

Don't get me wrong, being part of a pack certainly has it's perks. But it is important to be able to hang with yourself, look within, and be content.

That's why, even when everyone is home, and together in the same room, I like to find a quiet spot and chill. This also makes you more desirable. Whenever I do it, everyone starts calling my name, and wondering where I am. Then I wait, sit, listen, for the perfect time to make my grand entrance.

Try it sometime, let me know how you make out.

By the way, note to Mom...
This weeks advise does not apply to you. Please hurry up and finish working your 4 double shifts. I have work for you to do!

The Part Time Puggle

Hi everybody! We had a part time puggle on staff today for a few hours. I am sanctioning a guest post from my Mom so she can tell you about how her and Dad participated in an emergency transport of a puggle named Crampton from here in Connecticut up to Brattleboro, VT.

Normally, as you know, I like things when they are all about me. But today's situation called for special exemption, so I held things down here at home base. I told Brigitte what was going down. She understands as her story was not all that different from Crompton's when she came to live with us. But we didn't tell the little freak. If he ever knew that another sweet boy was making eyes at his Mommy, and nuzzling up all tender, we would have had a real situation on our paws.

He came here to our house, but we didn't get to sniff his butt. He just had a potty break before he was off to his forever home. It was for the best we didn't throw down paws, cuz we didn't want to stress him out.

So without further adieu, here's the Mom to tell you more, and to show you some more pictures. Take it away Mom!!!

"Ahem, thank you Wilma. Hi folks! As Wilma said, my husband and I took a drive up to Vermont to cover a leg of a transport to get this puggle to his new forever home. Thanks to Karen Powers of Green Mountain Pug Rescue for putting out the call, and arranging for the rescue of this sweet little owner surrender. It was a last minute thing on the part of the owner and the little guys fate would have been much different if it weren't for a bunch of very generous people and a lovely family who have taken him in. I have a feeling they are going to have a wonderful new addition to their family. This boy is so sweet. He has some skin and ear issues, and needs his shots. But, he will be going to the vet in the morning and will be well on the way to good health and happiness! Here are a few pictures"

In the car. I sat in back with him while Todd drove. He required almost as much attention as Sluggo!

As we were getting close to our destination, he finally settled down and dozed off. So sweet.

I have a video with Crompton singing for gas money. He's a howler, and I swear he said I love you to Todd. When blog press stops being a dick, maybe I will be able to post it. Until then, you'll just have to trust me!

At the Agway where we met the next driver, after shopping for a new treat.

Crompton made it safe and sound to his new family. He has had a bath, gone shopping at the Petco for treats and a harness. And he has a new name tag with a new name. Frankie!

Best of luck to Frankie, may you have a long and happy life with your new family!

Light and Fluffy

We're adorable. Nothing you can do about it.

We do this kind of thing naturally, we weren't even posed for this shot.

Don't Read This Dad

Whenever I have something sad to talk about, Dad doesn't want to read my posts. He needs to be warned. He is very tender to the thought of a suffering of, or the loss of a friend. He loves it when I am silly, or sarcastic, or devilish. I enjoy that as well. But sometimes, we have to talk about the sadness, the tragedy.

I too am tender. Much as I hate to admit it. But my friends all know the many layers of the Wilma. I couldn't not speak of the loss of our dear Lilo.

As many of you have noted, it is too much. Too many of our beloved friends have been leaving for the bridge. It is so hard to bear. I truly have no words. I had to search for some comfort, some words to help us all cope and understand. So I asked Google. There are many sentiments out there that address our human's dilemma. For it is them who make the commitment to us. To love us, and care for us, even though they know that some day they will suffer such pain and grief when we have to leave. So thank you Moms and Dads. Thank you for making the sacrifice to give us the great lives that you do. I like to think we make it worth while. For as much as we like to give you the business, there is no one who will ever love you the way we do.

For Lilo and Jess,

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality,
never fully understanding the necessary plan."
Irving Townsend.

Not the least hard thing to bear when they go from us, these quiet friends, is that they carry away with them so many years of our own lives.

John Galsworthy

Looking back on the memory of the dance we shared, beneath the stars above.
For a moment all the world was right, how was I to know that you'd ever say goodbye?
And now I'm glad I didn't know the way it all would end, the way it all would go.
Our lives are better left to chance, I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance.

Sunflower Sentiment

Hello friends. There has been so much happening with all of our Sunflower Sisters out there. We wanted to give everyone some special attention, but when we heard our girl Lilo was in trouble, we had to get right to work.

It seems Lilo has been struggling over the past couple months with some breathing problems and infections. She really needs us all to send her healing vibes from the power of the paw. And that is what we will do. We love you Lilo and Jess and we hope Lilo is fast on the road to recovery.

We also had a recent loss in our Sunflower family. Most of you know about dear Molly crossing the rainbow bridge. She was grand old dame and will be dearly missed by all. I only wish I could have met her in the fur. She had many of the qualities I hold dear in a royal pug.

We have planted a Sunflower right next to Josie's to honor Molly. We are keeping a close eye on it as the new public enemy number one "Finchy Poo" has taken to eating the seeds. I don't think Molly would appreciate that, so I have been giving Finchy the stink eye whenever I am in the yard.

There it is over my shoulder before Finchy Poo did the damage. This is my I mean business birdy look. What do you think?

We are behind on Birthday wishes too. Such slackers!

Happy Belated Birthday Noodles!

Happy Belated Birthday Petunia!

Happy Belated Birthday Tallulah!

Happy Belated Birthday Sequoia!

We know you had great birthdays and we were thinking of you. Just late in the message. Hope we didn't miss anyone, we will double check tomorrow.

Stay strong sisters,
Love,
Wilma
