So Much to Tell, So Little Time ~ so let's do a giveaway!

Hi! Whew! I don't know about you guys, but the humans around here have been running around like a bunch of fools all month. Seems to be an annual event. Either way, there are definitely some things I don't want let slide. One of those things being, telling you about the TASTY treats the lady over at Pawmetto sent for us to review. The bag came in the mail just a couple short weeks ago, and we made quick work of taste testing. So quick in fact, that we didn't stop long enough to do any photo documentation. Don't worry though, Mom got plenty of shots of me devouring the last of the crumbs tonight.

We received the Chicken Liver Treat variety. They come in beef and lamb as well. I can tell you without hesitation, that these liver treats were de-licious! Those of you who know me may be thinking, well you pugs will eat anything. That is pretty much true, however, even our non standard pug Sluggo liked them. He's like Mikey. You know.... let's get Mikey

Not only did they send us a bag of these lovely treats, but they also offered to provide a bag to our readers!
How cool is that?!

Here I am, finishing off the bag, while other pugs look on with envy... hehehehehehe

So here's the deal. If you would like to win a bag of Pawmetto treats of your very own, just leave a comment on this post. We'll go until Sunday at midnight. Then Monday I'll have Mom run your entries through randomizer.

I'm going to do another give away related to last weeks safety post from Morton Salt and the ASPCA, but I'll save the deets for another post.

I do also want to let you all know, that I went for my eye follow up the other day, and the ulcer is healed. They are still putting the antibiotic ointment in the eye, but I also get one of my PK meds back. Plus, I get another trip down to Norwalk with Mom on the heated seat!.

I thought about going in the garden, because, well you know, I can. But I was so pleased with the good report, I thought better of it.

OK people, that's all for now. Don't want to overwhelm you with all the details of my fabulous life, but I will be back soon to share more!

Sluggy Bee's Bedtime Initiative

Hi friends! Sluggo at the helm today. I figured while Mom was busy taking Wilma to yet another vet visit, I would take this chance to fill you all in a a new campaign I've initiated here in the household. Before I start, I will let you know that I heard Dad on the phone, and Wil got a good report on her eye. I'll let her tell you about it though. Notice me laying with my new Christmas lambie? I got him because I have been very good, and haven't attacked anyone who gets too close. I got to have one upstairs lambie, and one downstairs lambie returned to me over the past few weeks. Now I have three whole lambies to pal around with. I wonder if I am good, if I will be able to rebuild my empire?

Now on to the subject at hand. Some have been known to refer to me as a somewhat simple pug. One who might enjoy a ride on the short bus to school. I'm here to tell you, let 'em talk. Makes it easier for me to roll out my whole new night time routine without a hitch. See, I've got these suckers eating right out of my paw. Or should I say they have me eating right out of a bowl, THREE times a day!

Yup, that's right. I, and I alone am now getting a third meal at night. They call it my HS snack. (That's nursing lingo for Hour of Sleep) It's a whole big thing. Usually Dad goes up to bed with the girls, and Mom stays downstairs and issues me a tasty night time snack. What's even better, is that there is a variety of choices for me. Sometimes it's a little yogurt and banana, or yogurt and cookie. One night I got mashed up banana and a cookie.

All's I had to do the implement this heavenly event was puke up a little bile in the morning. Seems if I go too long without food, my belly gets a little tumbly. All I have to say, is yay me!
It's so tasty, I've been known to chase it right under the jelly cabinet

OK, so now onto part deux (that's French for two, see, I am smart) of my Initiative.

"One family, one bedtime"

That's right, if four of the five pack members are in bed, it is unacceptable for the fifth to be anywhere else. Come one, come all!

The parents aren't convinced that this last part isn't just another manifestation of my OCD.
The deal is, that a couple of nights this week, Dad stayed downstairs when we all went up to bed. I didn't like this at all. So I jumped down and ran to get him. When he brought me back to bed and closed the door, I sat at the foot of the stairs and cried. Clearly, this caused Dad to get to bed immediately. Mission accomplished. Mom thinks it is because I think Dad is one of my lambies. A bedtime buddy so to speak. Usually it's Mom that stays up later, and I follow Dad straight to bed. I love the bed. I'm OK with Mom coming up whenever. So you see, Dad = lambie.

Safety First!

Boy, Morton Salt and the ASPCA must know what a safety nut I am, cuz I got and email from a nice lady asking me if I would like to promote their safety campaign on my blog. I was all over it like pug fur on a couch. Turns out, Morton Salt has a pet safe ice melting product called Safe-T-Pet. In addition to being doubly safe by keeping us from slip sliding away, and making sure we don't lick any poison, or hurt our paws, they are launching a Winter Safety Campaign.
As part of the campaign, Morton Salt is donating $20,000 green papers to the ASPCA.
This campaign will last through January of 2012. By going to Morton Salts Facebook page and liking them, they will donate $1 to the ASPCA. Those dollars are in addition to the 20,000 they have already promised, up to $75,000! That's easy enough. I didn't even need to leave the safety of my couch to do that! Those dollars will go a long way in helping less fortunate animals than us, that's for sure. Here is a link to their FB page too

Not only all of that, but the nice lady who contacted me is giving me a pet safety kit to giveaway to one of you lucky readers! I was thinking of doing it next week sometime. Maybe a photo contest showing me how you are implementing the many safety tips offered at their site. What do you think?

Here are a few examples they told me about...

  • Using pet-friendly (salt free and chloride free) ice melters such as Morton® Safe-T-Pet®.
  • Keeping anti-freeze high on shelves in sealed containers and quickly cleaning any spills/leakage.
  • Limiting outdoor time for pets when temperatures drop below freezing.
  • Checking warm spots on cars, such as hoods, where animals might seek shelter from the cold.
  • Keeping pets on a leash, especially dogs, which can become disoriented or lost when once familiar surroundings are covered in ice and snow; and
  • Making sure pets are wearing identification tags and proper outerwear as needed
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •                    So remember everybody, be safe out there!  I really encourage you all to check out more of the safety information being offered. I would be very sad if anything happened to any of you!

Wilma's Wednesday Holiday Words of Wisdom

"It's not the material things in life that count, it's how many times you can go to the vet the week of Christmas"

I joke, I joke. While it does just so happen that I will have seen all three of my doctors by weeks end, I will be spreading joy and cheer the whole time. That's good, right?

OK, back to the part about what is truly important, not just at this time of year, but all the days of the year.

* cue sappy emotional music*
What is important to me, are those nice warm laps that are available to me, at will. I also am lucky to have two walking treat dispensers ambling about the house any given evening. I guess I appreciate having those other two fur-balls to hang with. Especially at this time of year.
On a serious note, (cue Dad to stop reading at the end of this paragraph) I have a great family who love me very much, just like you do. For that I am forever grateful. I am not the first to point this out by any means, but it bears repeating, as we get all caught up in the hustle and bustle. Having people who love you, who you love back, there for you, is the greatest gift any of us has. Even if we can't enjoy a snuggle on your humans laps or share treats with you guys in person, we feel very fortunate to consider all of  you our friends too.

Hey Sluggo! Quit hogging the camera, and get back here with me and Wil!

Pugliacci the sad clown

OK, I think I put enough pictures to protect Dad from the sad stuff...

As evidenced this week after the tragic events in Houston, blogville is a pretty awesome place to visit. It's even a better place to live.
Even though we only really knew the Pittie Pack from Pips blog, and some other blog parties and stuff, we were so deeply saddened to learn of what happened to them and their wonderful family.
What has been so amazing, is to see how other people, many struggling at this time of year, many who also did not know them, come together and provide the most incredible support system.

Therein lies the true spirit of the season. I am very inspired by them all.

I have spared the details of the event that occurred, but provided a link to Maisie's Blog with the initial announcement, in case you hadn't heard.
I also encourage you to stop by the Kissa-Bulls blog and offer a word or two.

A Tale of Christmas Past

Hello friends! I know you have missed me, so I decided I better get to it and check in with my peeps. Now, I have a few items on my agenda this evening, but first and foremost, I am dedicating this post to Mom and Dad.
Why, you may ask? Let's just say I have been giving them a large ration of shit these days, and I figured I would lighten the mood a bit.
Plus, I finally convinced Mom to cough up the 5 bucks and buy me some more room on Picasa so I could change my header picture.

Check me out. Look how petite I was. This picture was taken during my first Christmas season. So, if I am remembering right, by the time this photo was taken, I had already left a gift under the tree for Mom and Dad. A gift they wouldn't discover until January when they were taking down the tree. Yup, I had searched around for the perfect spot to leave my very own yule log. Too bad they couldn't enjoy it during the holiday. But just think, years later, it is still the gift that keeps on giving.
So just remember guys, even if I do give you a little grief some of the time, I always have way more tricks up my fur sleeve to keep you laughing!

A quick update on my eye. Had to take a trip down to the eye doctor this morning cuz the thing was looking worse. Seems I have some kind of resistant bacteria growing. But they cultured it, and gave me some different meds, and the doc says I'll be just fine. So don't you worry about me!
Here I am on the way home, stealing Mom's seat. I had a nice comfy ride on the heated seat, not bad, not bad at all. I think from now on, no matter if there is one or two humans, I will be riding shotgun. At least until the winter is over anyway!

I'll definitely be checking back in before the holiday, so have a great week!

And Now, I Will Tell You About My Meals

Hi People! You may remember a couple months back, I asked for some help in the what do you get fed category. Well, we all took into consideration all of your suggestions, which were very helpful thank you, and made some changes.

After narrowing it down to either fully home cooked meals (which is where my vote was cast) and Honest Kitchen Preference with your own choice of protein added, the latter was implemented.

Now, I asked Mom not to go into all the minutia about high quality ingredients, and how the food is produced in human grade kitchens, not dog food factories, and cut straight to the chase. These new meals are freakin' terrific!

It starts with the base mix.

It comes dehydrated and needs to be re-hydrated by adding water. That part nearly kills us! But, while that is happening, Mom prepares all of our add ins. From the left in the picture above...
  • pro enzymes, for healthy bellies
  • Dasaquin for me and Britte's joints
  • Four Marvels for Brigitte"s pee (Chinese herb)
  • Metacam 1/2 dose for Brigitte for her hand, and me right now for my orb and back
  • Tryxin - more stuff for the joints
  • Omega Fish Oils (for the breath!)
OK, now for the most excellent part of all!
Meat!!!!!!!!

Not just any meat either. It's buffalo, made into little mini meatloaves.

We like to call them Britteloaves.
They have non fat cottage cheese, and eggs too!!!!!
Mom made a weeks worth last night. Boy did the house smell heavenly.
*note from mom, they totally do not smell heavenly. They make me want to gag and vomit all over the kitchen every time I make them. But, anything for the little tyrant and her crew*

So at what adds up to be a few bucks a meal per pug, I saw Dad ordering this for Mom's stocking last night...

*additional note from mom I really didn't do the math on the per serving cost, but even if it is a little more than their old food, it is totally worth it*

So, as mentioned in prior posts, we are really digging the new grub. We're soft, energetic, not any butt juice or wheelchair races.

(see wheel chair races)

And our poop is fantastic! So great in fact, that Brigitte is going to all new lengths to run it through again! Butt, we'll save that for another post (or not)
Sorry Grammy for the poop reference. I figured since it made it into the Christmas Newsletter this year, poop was off the restricted list ;-)

Thanks Mom For Giving Me Some of Your Precious Time to Blog

Hi friends. Apologies for the gap in posts. Not my wish, but you know these humans, busy, busy, busy. I do think I may have come up with a way to keep them around instead of going to that work place. I mean after all, they are MY full time employees, and I do not endorse moonlighting.

Here's the deal, my right lower eyelid  has been drooping recently. The parents were thinking since I have recently had a quick weight loss on my new food, that maybe my wrinkles were sagging. Yeah, well thank god they don't trust their own logic, who knows where I'd be if that were the case.

It was time for my 6 month ophthalmologist appointment, so Mom whisked me off to see her yesterday afternoon. Turns out I have an ulcer on my beautiful Egyptian eye. The meds I am taking for my Pigmenting Keratitis, in addition to the pain/anti-inflammatory meds for my back were masking my symptoms.

I have new medicine for my eye, and will keep you abreast of any changes, but I plan a full recovery. Of course, I am using this event to make my parents feel guilty for moonlighting. I don't advocate self injurious behavior to manipulate the parents, but it definitely works to my benefit when it does happen.

Now, for some really great news!

Remember Henry?
He has gotten they greatest gift of all for Christmas.
A new family!!!
That's right, he barely spent any time in foster care before his new Mom, a PRoNE volunteer, fell instantly in love with him. A true testament to how special he really is. We all know how difficult it can be for special needs pugs to find their forever homes. He even gets a new brother named Roman. He is a real looker too.
So happy for you buddy!!!

Ta ta for now from the couch. You should have seen Mom and Dad switching couches between the livvy and the den. What a train wreck!
We are enjoying the extra room to all flop in front of the fire together though.

Brigitte's Got Spring In Her Step!

But much like a cow, she ain't got no down gene.

Ever since we started our new diet, to include Honest Kitchen Preference and home cooked buffalo, Britte has been feelin' fine! Actually we are feeling pretty great, but I'll save that for another post.

Today I just wanted to show you how Brigitte climbs up onto the arm of the couch whenever she hears anyone around in the kitchen. You see, now instead of asking to be placed on the couch, she just flings herself up there. However, she still knows better than to jump down because it will hurt her bum foot.

That leaves her in quite a pickle when it comes to optimizing her chances at slurping up any errant crumbs that make their way to the kitchen floor. I think next she may just resort to climbing down onto the end table to get a peek around the corner!

Sluggo's in a Heap of Trouble

Hey everybody! I am sure most of you know Sluggo to be a sweet, loving, sensitive, if somewhat neurotic boy.

You may also be familiar with his close personal commitment to his lambies. Not only does he consider them part of his pack, but if you click here, you can be reminded that he runs them like a company. There's a whole hierarchy and everything, and he isn't afraid to fire someone

On most days this is a true representation of his character. But, you might be surprised to find out that Sluggo has a violent side.

That's right, sweet little innocent Sluggo has been getting all gangsta with me and Brigitte over lambs, and who's running this house. He is now facing the consequences of his actions.
You see, there has been a work stoppage here at lambie headquarters.

Yup, that's right, the local 360 refuses to return to the bargaining table until Sluggo can guarantee there will be no more violence in the work place.
Sluggo has been trying to get some scabs to cross the picket line, but that ain't gonna happen around here. In fact, word has gotten all the way to the North Pole of the goings on here at corporate headquarters and Sluggo received a message from the man in re!

Click here to see the personalized video Santa himself sent to Sluggo. (You won't regret it)

Let me tell you something, the boy is shaking in his fur at the thought of what may happen if he doesn't straighten up. He's only got 24 days to prove he has learned from his mistakes. Can he do it? Only time will tell.

Wilma's Thursday Words of Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving!

All of us at casa de Wilma would like to share some things we are thankful for this year. Me first.

Well first of all, I am thankful for me. I've had a great year. I've shared lots of love and laughs. I've continued to rule the house, and I've managed to pick up some new friends and followers. Not bad.
I am also quite thankful for Brigitte and Sluggo. They have provided me with endless hours of entertainment. They have served me well, and they make great warmers.

I am thankful for being a bad girl, cuz bad girls have more fun!

I am thankful for whippy, but fear I may never see it again.
Maybe someone could slip me some from their pie today?

I am also very thankful that my Nana got online this year so that she may keep up with all my antics! She really appreciates me the most!

OK Brigitte, your turn...

Hi everybody! Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

I too have an awful lot to be thankful for this year. Of course first and foremost, I am thankful for Wilma. Without her, none of this blog fun would be possible; )

I am thankful for Cape Cod, and learning to swim. That was the best!

I am also very thankful for our new food from Honest Kitchen. Why? It is freakin' delicious, and I get to lick the bowl!

I am thankful for Dad's band, cuz I get to go down in da club and rock out!

And I am thankful to my Grammy and Grampy for giving us a warm dry place to stay during the blizzard!

Ready Sluggo?

Um, ahem, yes I'm ready.
Happy Turkey day everyone!

I am thankful for my Mommy.

Is there anything else in life?

Oh Sluggo, you're hopeless. We all really want to let you know that we are very truly grateful for each and every one of our blog friends. If it weren't for you guys, I doubt this blogging thing would have lasted half as long. So where ever you are, and whoever you are with, we love you and hope you have the best Thanksgiving! Lot's of table scraps too!

Now Mom and Dad, will you please stop referring to us as ingrates?!
