Sunflower Club Ice Cream Social ~ :::Spy filters activate:::

OK girls, the doors have officially opened for the Sunflower Sister New Bloom ice cream social. Mom had a minor stroke because for the past 45 minutes flash player was on the fritz, and she needs it to bring live coverage. I told her not partying was not an option, and she called Dad who fixed it pronto.
So anyway, here's what we've decided to do. Since this is an all weekend affair, and we will be updating live. Every time new pictures are posted, we will change what the title says after that squiggly thing. Is there a name for that thing?

Here we have the guests of honor, bellying up to the ice cream buffet.
As you can see, the hot air balloon is ready and waiting for riders, so get your butts over here and join the fun!

Sasha and Deedee share a cone while, Tiffy, Cleo, Pearl and Lilo don their bonnets!

Tweedles gets some help with an extra large cone. Go Tweedles!

OK girls I've sent Brigitte and Spongy out on the balloon to make some sundae deliveries.

Our girl Roxy has sprained her shoulder and is home convalescing. Salinger also is a little under the weather, due to some serious meds he got at the vet this morning. (quite frankly, he's stoned).
I am hoping the ice cream helps them feel better so they can join us later this weekend.
(Yes, that is Sal on the left above, with the sunflower truckers hat. That was before his trip to the vet)
So. stop on over and send some get well wishes, but hurry back.

Good Morning everybody, and Happy May Day! We have some early risers enjoying the Maypole and some new arrivals. Hi Pearl and Daisy, Welcome Lily Jayne and crew. Sequoia, over here!

I can't tell you how happy it makes me to have you all together and enjoying yourselves. Top this one Hydrant Hounds!

OK, now this afternoon when I was going out for supplies, I was actually taking a few girls on a secret mission. I had to keep it way under the radar, because as it turns out, that that pesky little bee that's been buzzing around all weekend is actually Sluggo on covert missions for the stinky Fire Hydrant Fools.

So I had Tika and Kizzy swat him around a bit while we escaped to here......

Yep, behind those masks are the OG's (original girls) Izzy, Josie and Trixie, along with Pip, Tuni and myself. We shot over to the Fire Hydrant Fortress (we know where it is before they even announce the new location muahahahahaha) and planted some giant sunflower seeds. We added a little fertilizer, water and scrammed out of there before their lame security even knew the difference. So come summer girls, we will have full access to the Fire Hydrant shenanigans. Haha who's your Mommy boys?!!!!!
OK. bact to the festivities as we wrap up this most fabulous weekend!

Wilma's Wednesday Words of Wisdom

" Sunflower Girls Know How to Party"

I know, I know. How is this wisdom? Everybody knows we can party!
Well, I am using the words of wisdom forum to talk about our upcoming Sunflower Club new blooms ice cream social.

We will be starting the ice cream social  Friday night, and socializing through the weekend. Brigitte, Mom and myself will be making preparations all week.
All you sistas, old and new, are encouraged to send along pictures of your self to k dot hancich at snet dot net.
We will be compiling group shots as usual, but incorporating you all in various states of ice cream frenzies, or riding the Ferris wheel, can only add to the fun! Be creative!

My secretary Mom has to work on Saturday, so we won't be able to comment (unless she gets a minute to get on her iPhone), but you all should come by and party at any time you can over the weekend.

We are very excited to welcome all of our new Sunflower Sisters, and we are hoping to be able to announce a brand new blog from one of our new girls!

I also want to remind you about Sluggo's Stubby Memorial Earth Day Challenge.

He will be announcing a winner on Friday. You have until Thursday night at midnight to leave a comment on his post to be entered. Be sure to mention how you celebrated Earth Day.

Sluggo's Earth Day Challenge ~ Love Your Mother ~ Updated to Honor Stubby

Hi people's, Sluggo here. I've asked Mom to update my Earth Day Post. She did not include all of the details I had asked her too originally.
She appologised, something about working two back to back 10 hour shifts. Whatever.

The most important thing I want you to know, is that my challenge is dedicated to the memory of our friend Stubby.

You see Stubby was the hugest pugvocate for Mother Earth.
He dedicated his life to loving the Earth, and teaching us all how we could tread a little lighter.
This is the first Earth Day since he crossed the rainbow bridge, and all of blogville is diminished by his absence.

So this challenge is really for you Stubby, we miss you!

Hi everybody! Sluggo here. Happy Earth Day! Wilma let me borrow her blog today so I could tell you about my challenge. It really isn't all that challenging actually. Mostly, I am asking everyone to share with me anything you are going to do, in addition to what you already do, to help save our planet. In return, I am preparing a special package for one lucky entrant. I will choose a winner in one week on Arbor Day.

To make it easy, I have done some research to help inspire you.

Planet. green.com has put together some links to articles about things like dog friendly Earth Day events and natural flea and tick prevention.

E-cycling central gives links in every state for places to recycle old electronics.

Of course Petfinder is a great place to find recycled pets!

Here's a great idea from Erie County New York SPCA. Discs for Dogs will sell your donated cd's for a dollar in their store, and donate 100% of the money to help dogs.

So you see, there is no limit to the creative ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. Well, maybe there are some limits...

And by that I mean, no Brigitte, recycling poop doesn't count. At least not your way. Check Here for instructions to make your own poop composter!

So be creative, or ask Google. Just do something, and let me know what it is. In the end... Everybody wins!

Love,
Sluggy Bee

Wilma's Wednesday Words of Wisdom ~ It's Baaaaaaack

"Friends are like lambies, old ones are comforting and reliable, new ones are exciting and full of possibility."

I should probably really credit this wisdom to Sluggo. After all, he is the one with a deep personal commitment to his lambies. It was by watching him collect them all, old and new, that Inspired this weeks wisdom. That, and all our new Sunflower Sisters!

As you may know, The Sunflower Sisters are preparing to celebrate all their new friends with a big party. That is the real purpose of this post. I have some new details about the par-tay.

What we know right now, is that it will be an old fashioned ice cream social. We will have a southern belle theme. This great idea is from Kitty and Coco, and we love it! There will be hot air balloon rides and a giant ferris wheel.

We are looking at next weekend, as this one coming is Easter. So get your bonnets ready girls. Please any other ideas and requests are welcome.

I had Mom update the Sunflower roster on the Sunflower page. If you have joined and you don't see your name, don't be afraid to let us know. Mom gets a little flakey sometimes. If you haven't joined and would like to, just ask. Oh, it's gonna be good times!

Guest Post From Mom ~ Serious Stuff

Hi all. Today Wilma has kindly handed the reins over to me so that I may share something well outside her lighthearted posting style. She will be back next time, as there is a lot going on with the Sunflower Club. Sluggo also has some things to share, but that will all have to wait.

First I would like to share a link to Honeybear's blog.

If you are not familiar with her story, I encourage you to read about her journey from abuse, pain, and neglect to health, faith, and love, all from the kindness of strangers.

The long and short of it, is that HoneyBear spent the first years of her life in the cage of a backyard breeder who dropped her at a shelter to be killed when she was no longer of use to her. As if that wasn't bad enough, she was abused, her both front legs broken and allowed to heal without repair.
But her story ends happy. She was taken in as a foster, and funds were raised for her surgeries. She is living a wonderful charmed life with no fear of any harm coming to her.

On the same day I read about HoneyBear moving on to the next phase of her new life, I saw a sickening news story about two severely abused and malnourished dogs being anonymously dropped at a no kill shelter in my community.

Warning... Please look away if you don't want to see very disturbing pictures.

The sight of these dogs makes me physically ill. My natural reaction is to look away. To change the channel, close the page. It's too painful to think about. But, I couldn't stop thinking about these dogs all day. I don't have to look away, I can do something. I decided to start by putting their story out to you all. The dogs are under the care of the SPCA here in Monroe CT. There is a reward being offered for the ID of the owner that leads to their arrest and conviction. They are also having an adoption drive in an effort to place 29 of their long term residents. 29 in 29 days. Their adoption fees have been reduced to 29.00, from their normal 495.00.

Lastly, they are working to raise 5000.00 dollars the cost of their care for the next six months. Care to bring them back to health with the goal of finding them homes where they can know the love and security that our dogs receive on a daily basis.

I would like to arrange a more organized effort to help these dogs, so I will keep you posted with my plans.

If you got this far, thanks for reading. I hope in some small way to make a difference.

Kiss your babies,
Kathy

I got a surprise!!!

Hi everybody! Here I am sporting my bunny ears to tell you about the awesome package that came in the mail a few days ago.

Remember how it was my tenth Birthday a couple weeks ago? ( What do you mean Brigitte, "how could they forget?")

Anyway (she's just jealous), as I was reading one of Tweedles's post's one day I noticed that she had a picture of a book called Through the Eyes of Tweedles there.
I clicked on the book and it took me here.

I couldn't believe my eyes! Tweedles had a book of her beautiful poems.
How does this relate to my Birthday you may ask? Well, it was very close to the day, and I told Mom that I wanted Tweedles book as a present.
Since my Birthday was over, I had kind of lost hope that I would get it.
Then the big square box truck came with a package for me!

Yup! I got it!
Mom has been reading to us out of the book, and I just love it.

There are so many of Tweedles and her Mommy's beautiful words written in this book.

and pictures too!

You know what else?
Emmett and Archies Mom Melissa helped design the artwork.

It's so nice to have this book to sit with and touch with our paws. the words  and pictures make us feel very happy inside.
We feel lucky to have such a special friend in Tweedles.

Tonight I will have Mom read a bedtime  story from my new book.

Hmmmmm which shall I choose?

Nitey nite.
