I Love a Parade ~ Sluggo, not so much

Warning- tons
of pictures, you may want to get some poppycorn

Today was one of my favorite days of the year. The day of the Park Road Parade.

It was our 5th time marching with all the local pugs for The Corner Pug restaurant..
The first year we marched, I met my beloved Murphy. He couldn't go today, but, he came over to visit me this afternoon.
I will tell you all about that in another post!

So, as you can see, I was dressed up as, what else? A sunflower.
So was Brigitte!

We weren't the only flowers in the parade.
Look who we met...

That's Harriet, and her guardian bee and lady bug.
Here is a closer look...

Many thanks to Harriet's Mom Kathy who sent us some great pictures from the parade.
My Mom left the camera on the counter, and only had her iphone with her to take pictures.

While we girls were having the time of our lives, there was someone there that wasn't really diggin' it.

Mom and Dad didn't want to admit it. But based on his behavior in the 3 parades he has attended in the past,
Sluggo is no fan of costumes, or crowds.

We didn't let the little baby be a buzz kill though, we just soaked up the love.

Our old friend Chauncey was there.

and Count Dracula...

there was a turtle.

This little sweety, also not a fan of the costume.

Here's Brigitte in the Sunflowermobile...

This is Kimi, from our meet up group

and her new sister Kiki who was rescued about a month ago.
Before she went to live with Kimi, Kiki was fostered by Murph's Grammy.

"Move over and make some room Britte!"

What a great time, we were totally wiped out when we got home..

So we rested up for our visit.

Here are some links to awesome pictures from parades past taken by professional photographer Steve Yau.
You definitely should check them out...

  1. What lucky puggies! You 2 were so cute in your sunflower outfits. Poor Sluggo, he looked like he was being marched to the dungeon! Mack acts like that sometimes, too. Boys!
    Thanks for sharing the pictures.

  3. We thought you were turkeys, too. Just shows where pug minds go. Straight for the food.

You guys looked awesome! We are going to be in our city's Christmas parade in November. Any tips or hints for us?

  5. Well I guess I can see where we look like a couple of turkeys. JIVE turkeys!!! Bahahaha. Probably mom glued the petals onto a head band and that didn't go all the way around our head. But you gave us an idea for our next party. Add a few brown"feathers" and put Sluggo in a pilgrim suit! What do you think?

Southern Fried Pugs, whatever you do make it fun and funny. It is so great marching down the street and seeing all the kids smiling and pointing. Quite a rush, especially for a diva like me. I will give it some thought and let you know if I come up with anything specific.

    Tweedles,
Sluggo says thanks for understanding. He's so sensitive.

  6. Wilma;
You and your sister were totally awesome as sunflowers! Can't wait to use these to brag about you in the Christmas newsletter. And as for Sluggo...
    he's the more serious type.

    Love y'all

  7. We're sorry we missed the parade but Mommy and Daddy had to go to our human cousin's birthday party. It's a good thing we had a dinner date at your house or we would have been mad for being stuck at home. (No dogs allowed at the children's museum. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!)

Mommy said looking at the pictures of Murphy from past parades makes her a little sad because he wasn't grey back then. Now he's turning into a grey old fart. (Shut up Duke, at least I don't have grey hair on my tail. I have a stunning grey goatee.)

  8. Wow, that looks like an awesome time.

You gotta tell Sluggo he just has to accept being dressed up sometimes :)Or at least that is what I try to explain to Lincoln.

    Muah,

    Minnie Moo and Lincoln too

  15. Hi Grammy,
Sluggo sure is the serious type. I have been trying to get him to lighten up.

    Hi Murphy and Duke.
I am so glad you came for dinner. It was such a lovely time. I think your Mom needs to talk to my Dad. He is getting some grey whiskers too and feaking a little. Me, I say you both look very distinguished.

    Hi Minnie Moo,
I think we need to get the proper costume for Sluggo. No head pieces.

    Hi Sasha & cleo,
Mom made the costumes. She sees where we kinda look like turkeys. She had stems with leaves on our backs but you can't really see in the pictures.

    Lex,
Tell Indy she will be the center of attention if she dresses up.It is great!

    Hi Arlo,
Thank you for the compliment.Brigitte and I had a blast. We just love the parade. I must say, I think Brigitte loves it most. She usually doesn't mind being in her carraige, but she kept insisting to be put down to march with everybody!

    Hi Tuni and Seuoia,
Thanks, we did love being sunflowers. We have another party to go to, we don't know if we should dress as something different or not. What do you think?

    Hi Winston,
There weren't any bulldozers but I like that idea.If your Mom goes to see the pictures of Steve Yau that she linked to, he has more pugs in great costumes, maybe she could get ideas there.

    Izzy!!!
Yes the sisterhood of the traveling pug. I like it.I wish you guys could come and march in the parade with us. You would love it! Then we could have lunch after at The Corner pug on the patio. Maybe next year?!
